Sri Lankan Cricket Board has postponed SLPL till 2012, fearing financial crises. Brian Thomas spokesman of Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) told that they are not in position to get in more debt and therefore SLPL 2011 has been canceled. Instead of Premier League, regular domestic T20 tournament will be played and winner will go Champions League Twenty20 2011.
SLC spokesperson revealed that without India's support it is not possible to run any league. The decision to postponed SLPL till 2012 was taken after BCCI decided not to send its 12 players in Sri Lankan Premier League after allegations that Lalit Modi is arranging the SLPL.
After, BCCI decided to boycott the SLPL, SLC was unable to find broadcaster to the lucrative Indian fan market. Moreover it was believed that SLPL would be able to find Indian sponsors if Indian cricketers were to take part in the league. Meanwhile, SLC will try to convince BCCI to allow its player to take part in the next year's inaugural season.
Earlier, after reports came that Somerset which was awarded commercial and contracts for International players, BCCI fears complications should dispute over payment arises.
Other than BCCI, no other cricket board has conveyed any problem to SLC. Contrary to BCCI's stand, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan has extended full support to Sri Lanka Premier League. Support also came from Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA) who looks after problems of International players.
